An American Crime (known also as The Basement) - a 2007 movie based on the real story about torturing and murdering Sylvia Likens (Ellen Page) by Gertrude Baniszewski (Catherine Keener) - Indianapolis housewife. The premiere was in January at the Sundance Film Festival to controversy amongst all the critics, most of them, nonetheless, lauded that daring Catherine Keener performances and, especially, Ellen Page. The movie will premiere officially on the United States cable network, in 2008, Showtime.
Catherine Keener plays in this disturbing, confuse story based on real 1965’s events. When the daughter of two carnival acts (JUNO’s Ellen Page) is left under Gertrude Baniszewski’s care (Keener), she becomes unfortunately the victim of this single mother’s abusive and tortured mind.
