30 Days of Night - a 2007 thriller movie based on the miniseries of the comic book with the same name. The film director is David Slade; starring Josh Hartnett and Melissa George.
30 days of night is all that a small town from Alaska faces annually. The sun’s hidden by the horizon, sinking, for one month every year, leaving this town in total darkness. One night, with the sun fading, a group of vampires attacks the city, wanting to cause a complete destruction. The job of defeating these vampires is left to the husband-and-wife Sheriff team of the town, but can they really defeat the vampires?
Despite a quite silly ending (with the ’sucker-punch’ scene) and a few clumsy exchanges between Hartnett and George, this movie has enough invention and raw energy to keep you stunned. Brilliant, bloody… a great candidate for the best horror movie of the year.
